The IPL 2024 fixture slated for Wednesday, April 17, originally set for Kolkata, might be heading for a change. Concerns have arisen regarding the feasibility of hosting the match between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Eden Gardens on that day due to coinciding Ram Navami festivities.

Ram Navami, a major Hindu festival celebrating Lord Rama’s birth, typically involves large-scale celebrations and processions. This poses logistical challenges for IPL organizers in terms of ensuring adequate security amidst the festive fervor.
Further complicating the situation is India’s concurrent general election. To address these concerns, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Cricket Association of Bengal, and Kolkata police are currently in discussions regarding a potential reschedule or relocation of the match.
While no final decision has been made, ongoing deliberations are underway among all concerned parties, including the franchises and broadcasters, to explore viable alternatives in light of the prevailing circumstances.
Meanwhile, the IPL 2024 season has started off with an interesting beginning. Only two teams, KKR and RR, haven’t lost any matches yet. Both teams have won their games so far, making the tournament very exciting. However, with RR facing their first away game against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on the same day, the stakes remain high as they seek to maintain their winning momentum against formidable opponents on foreign turf.
