In a heartfelt gesture, Indian players donned black armbands on the third day of the ongoing third Test against England in Rajkot to honor the memory of former captain Dattajirao Gaekwad, who passed away on February 13.
Dattajirao, a seasoned cricketer, represented India in 11 Tests between 1951 and 1962. He exhibited his skills as a right-handed batter who could proficiently bowl both medium pace and leg-break. Notably, Dattajirao captained the Indian team during the 1959 tour of England.

The tribute holds special significance as Dattajirao Gaekwad was not only a distinguished figure in Indian cricket but also the father of former India batter and coach .
The BCCI released a statement before the commencement of the third day’s play, stating, “Team India will be wearing black armbands in memory of Dattajirao Gaekwad, former India captain and India’s oldest Test cricketer who passed away recently.”
The poignant act by the Indian players serves as a poignant acknowledgment of Dattajirao Gaekwad’s contributions to Indian cricket and expresses solidarity with his family during this period of loss.
