India to Host 2025 Asia Cup After 34 Years

In the latest developments regarding upcoming ACC events, India will host the Asia Cup 2025, bringing the tournament back to Indian soil after 34 years. This edition will follow the T20 format. The announcement came after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) issued an Invitation for Expressions of Interest (IEOI) for sponsorship rights.

India to Host 2025 Asia Cup After 34 Years

Bangladesh will host the 2027 Asia Cup, returning the tournament to the fifty-over format. India, the defending champions, clinched the title by defeating Sri Lanka in the 2023 final. The last T20 Asia Cup took place in 2022, with Sri Lanka emerging victorious against Pakistan.

Unlike the Women’s Asia Cup 2024, which will feature more teams, the 2025 and 2027 Asia Cups will include only six teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. The sixth team will secure its spot through a qualification process. The next Women’s Asia Cup, scheduled for 2026, will use the T20I format, just like the 2024 edition.

The ACC’s recent document outlined the tentative schedule, dates, formats, and venues for these events, though they are subject to change. The decision to grant India hosting rights for the 2025 Asia Cup comes amid ongoing disputes between the PCB and BCCI over Pakistan hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy. The BCCI insists on keeping India’s matches out of Pakistan, while the PCB is determined to host the tournament within its borders.

This announcement sets the stage for exciting cricketing events in the coming years, highlighting the dynamic landscape of Asian cricket.
