The BCCI has introduced a new ten-point policy for the senior men’s cricket team, requiring state associations hosting India-England games to follow these guidelines. India will host England for five T20Is and three ODIs, starting with the first T20I at Eden Gardens on January 22.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) confirmed its compliance with the BCCI’s guidelines, with arrangements made for the Indian team accordingly. CAB president Snehasish Ganguly stated that, in line with the policy, no separate transport will be provided for individual players. Instead, the entire squad will travel together on a team bus to and from matches and practice sessions. “We must follow the guidelines, which clearly state that all players must travel with the team,” Ganguly explained.
The BCCI’s new policy, discussed in a review meeting following India’s recent poor run in Test cricket, mandates that players must travel together as a team. To travel separately, a player will need pre-approval from the head coach or head selector. Additionally, players must stay until the end of training or matches before leaving the ground, fostering a sense of commitment and discipline within the squad.
Another significant aspect of the policy is that participation in domestic cricket is now mandatory for players. Rohit Sharma had previously mentioned this in a press conference when the team for the Champions Trophy was announced. While some have raised concerns, Ajit Agarkar emphasized that the new rules are not punitive but aimed at instilling discipline and ensuring players follow a structured approach while representing the national team.
