Australia’s convincing victory over New Zealand in the first Test at Wellington propelled Team India to the top spot in the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) points table. The BlackCaps, who began their home series against the Trans-Tasman rivals as table-toppers, slipped to second place following their defeat in the second Test of the two-year cycle, reducing their points percentage to 60%.

India’s ascent to the summit came after securing an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series against England, marking their third consecutive Test win. With a points percentage of 64.58, achieved after winning five out of eight Tests, Rohit Sharma’s men now lead the standings.
Prior to their series against England, Team India had triumphed over West Indies in July 2023 and managed a draw in the two-match Test series in South Africa, despite a historic victory in Cape Town. Despite facing challenges in Centurion and Hyderabad, the two-time Test championship runners-up maintain their position atop the rankings.
Despite their triumph at the Basin Reserve, Australia remains in the third position with a win percentage of 59.09, while Bangladesh, Pakistan, West Indies, and South Africa follow suit. England, grappling with multiple over-rate penalties, finds itself in eighth place, while Sri Lanka occupies the bottom spot with no wins in their initial two Tests. India’s home series against England concludes with the fifth and final Test scheduled in Dharamshala, starting on Thursday, February 7th.
