On Thursday, July 18, BCCI announced the squads for India’s upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be featured in the ODIs, while Suryakumar Yadav will take over as the new T20I captain.

India will play three T20Is and three ODIs in Sri Lanka. The first T20I will be held on July 27 in Pallekele. Fans were eagerly awaiting the squad announcement, and a major highlight is the inclusion of senior players Rohit and Kohli in the ODI squad. Initial reports suggested they might skip the tour, but fans can relax knowing they will participate, with Rohit leading the ODI side.
Suryakumar Yadav has been named the captain of the T20I side, surpassing Hardik Pandya. However, Hardik remains in the 15-member squad, confirming Suryakumar as the new full-time T20I skipper.
Shubman Gill has been appointed vice-captain in both formats. He recently led India to a 4-1 T20I series win against Zimbabwe, thereby impressing the selectors and management. Consequently, Gill replaces Hardik as vice-captain in T20Is and KL Rahul as vice-captain in ODIs.
Harshit Rana and Riyan Parag, who debuted internationally against Zimbabwe, have been included in the ODI squad. Shivam Dube is in both squads, and Sanju Samson remains in the T20I setup. Ruturaj Gaikwad has been surprisingly omitted from the T20I squad despite his strong performances in Zimbabwe.
