Afghanistan cricket has hit another setback with top-order batter Ihsanullah Janat receiving a five-year ban from the ICC for corruption. On Wednesday, August 7, the ICC revealed that Janat committed corrupt practices during the Kabul Premier League Season 2. Consequently, the ICC has suspended him from all cricket-related activities for the next five years.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) stated that Janat violated Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. This article addresses improper influence or attempts to fix any aspect of a match. Janat has admitted to these charges and confessed to his involvement in corrupt activities.
The issues extend beyond Janat, as the ICC and ACB are also investigating three other players for potential corruption. The ACB has stated that decisions regarding these players will be made once their involvement is confirmed.
Ihsanullah Janat made his international debut for Afghanistan on February 24, 2017, against New Zealand, and has played in 20 matches across all formats. His last appearance for the national team was against Zimbabwe in June 2022. Recently, the ICC also banned West Indies cricketer Devon Thomas for five years for similar anti-corruption violations related to Sri Lanka Cricket.
