ICC Annual Rankings: Australia Tops Test Rankings, India Leads in White-Ball Formats

In the latest update of the International Cricket Council’s annual team rankings, Australia has claimed the top spot in Test cricket, while India continues to dominate in both white-ball formats.

Australia’s ascent to the pinnacle of Test cricket comes on the heels of their remarkable 209-run victory over India in the ICC World Test Championship decider at The Oval last year. This triumph propelled Australia to a rating of 124 points, surpassing India, who held the top spot previously, with 120 points. England follows closely in third place with 105 points.

The rankings reflect performances between May 2021 and May 2023, with recent results carrying more weight. India’s series win against Australia in January 2021, for instance, falls outside the rankings period.

In the white-ball arena, India maintains its stronghold, leading in both One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). Despite losing to Australia in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, India’s consistent performances have ensured a six-point lead over Australia in ODIs, while they retain a seven-point lead over Australia in T20Is.

In ODI rankings, South Africa trails closely behind Australia in third place, followed by Pakistan and New Zealand. In T20Is, Australia’s surge places them second, ahead of England. South Africa’s ascent to fourth place is notable, while Pakistan slips to seventh.

Overall, India’s comprehensive lead in T20Is remains unchallenged, with Australia and England trailing behind. Notably, Scotland’s improvement sees them surpass Zimbabwe in the T20I rankings.

With these rankings reflecting the latest performances and trends in international cricket, teams will continue to strive for excellence across all formats as they vie for top positions in the global cricketing landscape.
