The ICC has nominated South African spinner Keshav Maharaj, along with rising stars Dunith Wellalage and Jayden Seales, for the Men’s Player of the Month award for August. Sri Lankan all-rounder Wellalage delivered standout performances in the ODI series against India, where he scored 108 runs and took seven wickets to help Sri Lanka secure a series win.
In the first ODI, Wellalage scored a career-best 67 and claimed crucial wickets of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, contributing to a thrilling tie. In the second ODI, he played a vital knock of 39 runs, guiding Sri Lanka to a winning total. Though he didn’t contribute much with the bat in the third game, Wellalage produced his best bowling figures of 5/27, dismantling India’s innings with key wickets, including Virat Kohli, Rohit, and Shreyas Iyer.
Maharaj played a crucial role in South Africa’s Test series win against the West Indies, ultimately helping them secure a 1-0 victory in the ICC World Test Championship. The left-arm spinner impressively took 13 wickets at an outstanding average of 16.07 over the two-match series, further proving his worth in key moments.
West Indies pacer Jayden Seales also made his mark in August, leading his team’s bowling attack in the Test series. Seales took 12 wickets at an average of 18.08, including nine wickets in the second Test, showcasing his ability to trouble opposition batters with pace and precision.
