In a recent development, the India squad has released seam bowlers Harshit Rana and Mayank Yadav ahead of the second Test match in Pune. Harshit Rana will join the Delhi team for their upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Assam. According to a report by TOI, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for Rana’s services because their premier pacer, Navdeep Saini, has joined the India A squad for the Australia tour.

Rana was originally a travelling reserve with the India Test team for the three-match series. However, this opportunity allows him to gain valuable game time with Delhi as he prepares for future challenges. The Indian team has been closely monitoring Rana’s progress, recognizing his potential as a future key player in their bowling lineup. He will now spearhead Delhi’s pace attack, as the team struggles in the current Ranji Trophy season, having only secured four points from two matches. This upcoming clash against Assam is crucial for their campaign.
Meanwhile, the team has released Mayank Yadav to prepare for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa next month. Reports suggest that the BCCI is considering including Mayank in the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. After a stellar debut T20I series against Bangladesh, the selectors see him as an essential asset for the upcoming Australian tour. Moreover, with Mohammed Shami unlikely to participate in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, former players have urged the team, led by Rohit Sharma, to include Mayank in order to provide ample support to Jasprit Bumrah in the bowling attack.
