Under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians clinched their inaugural triumph in the IPL 2024 season on April 6, outplaying the Delhi Capitals by 29 runs. This victory propelled the five-time champions upwards on the points table, while Rishabh Pant‘s squad slid to the bottom.

After the game, Hardik Pandya reflected on reuniting with his national teammate Rishabh Pant, who recently returned to competitive cricket after a 14-month hiatus due to injuries sustained in a car accident near Roorkee in December 2022. Taking to Instagram, Pandya expressed joy at seeing Pant back on the field, stating, “Great to see you where you belong.”
During the match, the Mumbai Indians posted an imposing total of 234-5 batting first, with significant contributions from openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, along with a quickfire innings from Romario Shepherd. Despite a valiant effort from the Delhi Capitals in the run-chase, spearheaded by Tristan Stubbs and Prithvi Shaw, they fell short by 29 runs, with Pant’s dismissal by Gerald Coetzee proving pivotal.
