Hardik Pandya Penalized Again for Slow Over-Rate as Mumbai Indians’ Woes Continue

Once again, Mumbai Indians’ captain Hardik Pandya has incurred a penalty for a slow over-rate offense, resulting in a fine of Rs 30 lakh and a suspension from the team’s opening match of the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season. This marks the third time Pandya has incurred such an offense during the IPL 2024 competition.

The penalty comes after Mumbai Indians concluded their IPL 2024 campaign with their final league match against Lucknow Super Giants on May 17 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

According to a statement from the IPL, Pandya’s team faced a slow over-rate during the match against Lucknow Super Giants, leading to the imposition of the fine and suspension. Since it was Mumbai Indians’ third offense of the season regarding minimum over-rate violations, the authorities fined Pandya Rs 30 lakh and barred him from participating in the team’s subsequent match.

Additionally, all other members of the Playing XI, including the influential player Rohit Sharma, received fines amounting to 50 percent of their match fees or Rs 12 lakh, whichever is lower.

While there is no fixed rule regarding the payment of fines, it is customary for the team management to cover the fines on behalf of the players. Consequently, the financial impact on the players is minimal.

Pandya’s latest penalty adds to the ongoing challenges faced by Mumbai Indians in the IPL, underscoring the need for the team to address its over-rate issues and rectify its performance ahead of future matches.
