“Three centurions and great fielding in both innings — honestly, no complaints,” Gill told broadcasters after the win. “I’ve lost six tosses in a row, but as long as we keep winning, it doesn’t matter. I’m very happy with the result.”

India bowled out West Indies for 162 on day one, led by Mohammed Siraj’s four-wicket haul. KL Rahul (100), Dhruv Jurel (125), and Ravindra Jadeja (104*) then powered India to 448 for 5 declared, securing a 286-run lead. On day three, Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Washington Sundar shared seven wickets to wrap up the match in less than two sessions.

Gill appreciated India’s strong spin attack, saying, “When you’ve got quality spinners, it’s hard to rotate them, but it’s better to have too many options than none. That’s the challenge and the fun of playing in India.” He also reflected on the team’s growth, noting their ability to bond and recover from tough situations. “We are still learning, but as long as we keep learning, we’ll stay on the positive side of the match,” he said.

Jadeja, named Player of the Match, highlighted his improvement in fitness and skills during the off-season. “Batting at No. 6 now gives me time to pace my innings,” he said. He also enjoyed playing on Ahmedabad’s red-soil pitch, which offered bounce for spinners and opportunities for batters.

India, currently third in the World Test Championship table, will face West Indies again in the second Test in Delhi starting October 10.
