Ghana’s Cricket Team Ranks 12th in Africa

Ghana’s Cricket Team Aims to Rise in African Rankings

Ghana's Cricket Team Ranks 12th in Africa

Ghana’s national men’s cricket team, known as the Black Batters, currently holds the 12th spot in Africa and ranks 63rd globally in the latest ICC T20I rankings. The Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) has its sights set on regaining its former glory at the top of African cricket, even though their current position places them among the continent’s elite teams.

Eugene King, Chief Operating Officer of the GCA, acknowledges the current ranking reflects a decline from Ghana’s previous achievements. He emphasizes a lack of competitive matches as a major reason for this drop, drawing parallels with the importance of friendlies in football for maintaining rankings.

Despite these challenges, King is optimistic about Ghana’s cricket future, especially with the recent completion of two world-class cricket turfs in the country. He believes these facilities will attract more international teams for bilateral series, enhancing exposure and interest in cricket among Ghanaians.

With improved playing conditions and increased opportunities for competitive cricket, King anticipates a resurgence in Ghana’s cricketing fortunes.
