Uncle to former South African captain Shaun Pollock, Graeme’s latest health setback adds to a series of ailments he has faced, including colon cancer and Parkinson’s Disease. Pollock, known for his left-handed batting prowess and occasional leg-spin bowling, made his debut for the Proteas in December 1963 at The Gabba, Brisbane, and played his final international match in March 1970 at St George’s Park Stadium, Gqeberha, also against Australia.

Throughout his remarkable career, Pollock amassed 2,256 runs in Tests at an impressive average of 60.97, boasting a remarkable strike rate of 112.35. Notable for his 11 half-centuries and seven centuries, including two double centuries, Pollock’s highest score stood at 274. Despite his undeniable talent, South Africa’s isolation during that era limited Pollock’s international appearances.

Regarded by the iconic Don Bradman as one of the finest left-handers of his era, Pollock’s contributions to South African cricket extend beyond his playing days. Graeme Pollock, the former South African cricket legend, also coached the national team’s batting. St George’s Park named the Graeme Pollock Pavilion in recognition of his contributions.
