After the current series against Sri Lanka, India will appoint a full-time bowling coach. Reports indicate that the BCCI has agreed to Gautam Gambhir’s request for a dedicated bowling coach, with the final decision expected during the Bangladesh Test series.

During the Sri Lankan tour, Sairaj Bahutule served as the bowling coach while T Dilip was the fielding coach, and Ryan ten Doeschate and Abhishek Nayar assisted Gautam Gambhir. As the Sri Lankan series ends, Bahutule will wrap up his role, while Dilip is likely to remain in his position.
Former South African pacer Morne Morkel is poised to be named India’s permanent bowling coach. Morkel, who previously worked with Gambhir at LSG and played for KKR under him, is the top candidate for the role. Gautam Gambhir has endorsed Morkel, aligning with the BCCI’s plans.
Anticipation is growing not only for the India vs Sri Lanka series but also for the strategic adjustments in the Indian cricket team’s coaching structure. Morkel will officially take over as the bowling coach before the home series in September, beginning with the Test series against Bangladesh.
There is also speculation about Sairaj Bahutule’s future, with his potential promotion to head coach still uncertain. The Indian team management and selectors will review the current coaching team during the ongoing six-match white-ball series in Sri Lanka before finalizing the new lineup.
