Faf du Plessis: We Have Few Bowlers, So We Must Score More Runs to Make Up for It

The struggles for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) continued in IPL 2024 as they slumped to their fifth defeat in six matches. Mumbai Indians (MI) effortlessly chased down a seemingly competitive target of 197 runs at the Wankhede Stadium, leaving RCB captain Faf du Plessis to acknowledge the team’s limitations with the ball.

Faf du Plessis: We Have Few Bowlers, So We Must Score More Runs to Make Up for It

Despite a valiant late effort from Dinesh Karthik who propelled RCB to a total of 196/8, their bowling attack simply couldn’t contain the firepower of the Mumbai Indians batting lineup. Du Plessis openly lamented the lack of bowling depth in his squad, emphasizing the need for a significant shift in strategy. He pointed out that for RCB to remain competitive, their batters need to consistently put up scores exceeding the daunting mark of 220 runs.

Du Plessis, who finally managed his first half-century of the season, expressed significant concern regarding RCB’s current bowling options. He highlighted the urgent need to find creative solutions to pick up early wickets and stifle momentum from opposing batsmen. The South African captain acknowledged that the Mumbai Indians capitalized on these bowling weaknesses, particularly during the crucial powerplay overs, putting immense pressure on his bowlers.

While strong performances from Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan orchestrated a comfortable victory for Mumbai Indians, even competitive scores posted by du Plessis and other RCB batsmen proved insufficient to secure a win. The focus for RCB now turns to addressing their bowling woes if they hope to turn their season around.
