Evin Lewis and Kyle Mayers Break Chris Gayle’s Record Against the Kings in CPL 2024

The St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots faced the St. Lucia Kings in an exciting clash during the fifth match of CPL 2024 at Warner Park in St. Kitts. After winning the toss, Kings’ captain Faf du Plessis chose to field first. The Patriots lost an early wicket, but Evin Lewis and Kyle Mayers turned the game around with a dominant batting display. The pair took advantage of St. Lucia’s bowlers, leading the Patriots to a strong total.

Record-Breaking Partnership

Evin Lewis and Kyle Mayers set a CPL record with a 199-run partnership, leading the Patriots in a thrilling match.

Evin Lewis remained unbeaten on 100 off 54 balls, while Kyle Mayers narrowly missed a century, scoring 92. Together, they formed an impressive partnership of 199 runs, setting a new CPL record for any wicket. This remarkable effort broke the previous record of 162 runs by Chris Gayle and Chadwick Walton. Gayle and Walton achieved their record for the Jamaica Tallawahs against the Patriots in 2019.

Here’s a look at the top five partnerships in CPL history:

  1. Evin Lewis and Kyle Mayers (Patriots) – 199 runs vs. Kings, 2024
  2. Chris Gayle and Chadwick Walton (Tallawahs) – 162 runs vs. Patriots, 2019
  3. Marlon Samuels and O Peters (Hawkbills) – 161* runs vs. Amazon, 2014
  4. Andre Russell and K Lewis (Tallawahs) – 161 runs vs. Trinbago, 2018

However, Tim Seifert (64 off 27 balls) and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (68 off 35 balls) mounted an incredible comeback. Their partnership ensured the Kings chased down the target with five wickets in hand and 16 balls to spare, sealing one of the most dramatic wins in T20 cricket.
