Chameera ruled out of the second ODI due to a quadriceps injury

Dushmantha Chameera will be absent from Sri Lanka’s second ODI against Afghanistan due to a left quadriceps injury sustained in the first ODI, where he had to leave the field during his eighth over. Dushmantha Chameera, who had contributed with two wickets in the initial game, is awaiting feedback on the extent of his injury following a scan, with results sent to a specialist in the UK for consultation.

This injury is unrelated to his previous setbacks, including a torn pectoral muscle last year, which led to him missing several matches, and an ankle surgery before that. Although Dushmantha Chameera is feeling better, the precise nature of his injury remains uncertain until the specialist provides further insights.

Asitha Fernando replaces Dushmantha Dushmantha Chameera in the squad. The 32-year-old fast bowler had showcased his skills in the recent Test series against Afghanistan, where he played a crucial role by taking six wickets, aiding Sri Lanka in securing victory. Fernando’s last ODI appearance was in November 2022 against Afghanistan, and despite having limited ODI experience with just one wicket to his name, he has demonstrated his prowess in the longer format.
