Delhi Capitals’ star opener, Prithvi Shaw, is facing a fresh set of challenges off the field as a Mumbai court has ordered an inquiry into a molestation case filed against him. This comes on the heels of injury setbacks that have kept him out of action recently.
From On-Field Woes to Off-Field Ordeal
Shaw’s troubles began with a pub altercation outside a Mumbai nightspot. Social media influencer Sapna Gill allegedly vandalized his car after he declined to take selfies with her and her companions. This incident resulted in her arrest.
Taking the matter a step further, Gill filed a molestation case against Shaw at the Airport police station. However, due to a perceived lack of evidence, the police initially refused to register an FIR (First Information Report). Undeterred, Gill approached the court to pursue the case.
Court Orders Investigation, Reputation at Stake
The court, presided over by Metropolitan Magistrate S C Tayde, has directed the police to conduct a thorough investigation into Gill’s allegations. A report on the inquiry findings must be submitted by June 19. While the court did not take any action against the police for not filing an FIR earlier, this inquiry casts a shadow over Shaw’s reputation.
Although there’s a lack of concrete evidence to support the molestation accusations, the controversy itself can be damaging. However, a ray of hope emerges for Shaw’s defense. Witness statements and CCTV footage from the night of the altercation reportedly suggest that Gill and her friends were intoxicated and might have instigated the confrontation with Shaw. These details could be crucial in clearing his name.

As Shaw grapples with this off-field situation, it remains to be seen how it will impact his cricketing career. Overcoming these off-field distractions and refocusing on the game will be crucial for the young batsman.
