Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams has committed to Essex Eagles for the first eight matches of the 2024 T20 Blast season. This marks the third stint with the team for him, as he previously played for them in 2022 and 2023. He notably aided their journey to the final in the latter year, where they were defeated by Somerset.

Daniel Sams, a ten-time capped T20 international for Australia, brings a wealth of experience to the Essex lineup. In addition to his appearances for the national team, he has also showcased his talent in various domestic and franchise leagues around the world. He most recently represented the Sharjah Warriors in the International League in the United Arab Emirates, following his participation in the Big Bash League with the Sydney Thunder.
The 31-year-old has a diverse T20 cricket resume, having played for teams such as Trent Rockets in the Men’s Hundred, as well as Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. He has also been a prominent figure in the Big Bash, representing both Sydney-based franchises.
Essex, scheduled to commence their T20 Blast campaign against Gloucestershire on May 30th, have secured Sams’ services for the initial fixtures of the tournament. Alongside Sams, Essex has also bolstered their squad with signings like South African players Simon Harmer and Dean Elgar, indicating their ambition for the upcoming season.
