South Africa have added left-arm spin allrounder George Linde to their squad as a traveling reserve π« ahead of their Champions Trophy semi-final against New Zealand πβοΈ.
π©Ή Markram’s Injury Concern
Star batter Aiden Markram suffered a right hamstring injury while fielding against England and had to sit out the remainder of the match ππ. His fitness test on Tuesday evening will determine his availability for the crucial semi-final against the Kiwis.
π Injury Woes Continue for South Africa
Markramβs injury adds to South Africaβs already lengthy list of absentees ππ:
β Anrich Nortje (Fast Bowler)
β Gerald Coetzee (Fast Bowler)
*β Nandre Burger (Fast Bowler)
*β Lizaad Williams (Fast Bowler)
With so many pace bowlers out, the Proteas might need to rethink their strategy ππ€.
π Linde Joins as Potential Replacement

Linde will join the squad on Tuesday evening but will only be officially added if Markram is ruled out and the ICCβs event technical committee approves the swap πβ .
Thereβs also a tactical element to Lindeβs inclusion ππ. If South Africa reach the final in Dubai against India, the dry pitch conditions could favor an extra spinner π΅π. India recently fielded four spinners in their match against New Zealand.
Currently, South Africa have two specialist spinners:
π’ Keshav Maharaj
π Tabraiz Shamsi (Only Maharaj has played in Pakistan π΅π°)
π₯ Lindeβs Recent Form

Linde has been in red-hot form π₯π, playing a key role in MI Cape Townβs π SA20 title win:
π 11 matches π
β‘ 161 runs (Strike Rate: 153.33)
π― 11 wickets (Economy: 6.29)
More recently, for Western Province in the One-Day Challenge Division One:
π 106 runs
π― 4 wickets (5 matches)
His all-round ability makes him a valuable backup πͺ.
π Other Squad Updates
π’ Kwena Maphaka (Left-arm fast bowler) is also with the team as a traveling reserve βοΈπ.
πͺ Temba Bavuma & Tony de Zorzi have recovered from illness and will resume training today π€β‘οΈποΈ.
π All eyes are on Markramβs fitness test as the Proteas prepare for a high-stakes clash against New Zealand πΏπ¦βοΈπ³πΏ. Will Linde get the call-up? Stay tuned! π’π₯
