Virat Kohli has become the third Indian batter to sustain an injury ahead of the first Test against Australia in Perth, following Sarfaraz Khan and KL Rahul. India, led by Rohit Sharma, will play a five-match Test series Down Under, with the Perth Stadium hosting the opening match.

In a concerning development, Kohli reportedly developed an unspecified injury during the team’s preparations. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that India’s star batter underwent scans on Thursday before the intra-squad practice match at the WACA in Perth. Despite the injury scare, Kohli participated in the practice simulation, though he managed only 15 runs with the bat.
Meanwhile, other injury concerns also emerged in the Indian camp. Sarfaraz Khan, who was hit on the elbow during a net session, is reported to be stable. Although he experienced discomfort, the injury was not severe, and he did not require an MRI scan. On the other hand, KL Rahul sustained a more serious blow to his elbow from a rising delivery during practice. The experienced batter left the field in visible pain as the team physio escorted him to the dugout.
With the first Test set to begin on the 22nd, India faces a challenging situation. Skipper Rohit Sharma is likely to miss the game due to personal reasons, leaving the visitors to consider KL Rahul or Abhimanyu Easwaran as potential replacements to open the innings. The series opener at the pace-friendly Perth Stadium will be a critical test for an Indian team already grappling with injury setbacks.
