Virat Kohli had a tough day on the field during the ongoing first Test against Australia at Perth Stadium, as he dropped a simple catch and had a poor showing with the bat. Kohli scored only five runs in India’s first innings, and his fielding blunder added to the disappointment.

The incident occurred in the third over of Australia’s innings when Marnus Labuschagne came to the crease after debutant Nathan McSweeney was dismissed cheaply. India’s stand-in captain, Jasprit Bumrah, bowled a full-length delivery, enticing Labuschagne to play a defensive shot. The ball moved away, taking an outside edge off the bat and flying straight to the slip cordon.
Kohli, positioned in the slips, had the perfect opportunity to dismiss Labuschagne, but he dropped the catch. Although Kohli initially got his hands to the ball, he spilled it while attempting to celebrate the potential wicket, failing to gain control. This missed chance gave Labuschagne a lifeline.
Despite Kohli’s blunder, India has made a strong start with the ball. Bumrah has been exceptional, claiming three wickets, and Australia found themselves in a precarious position at 19 for 3 in their first innings. The Perth pitch has been favorable for fast bowlers, adding to the intensity of the contest.
While Kohli’s drop was a costly error, India’s bowlers have fought back well, and the match remains in a tense and competitive state.
