Smriti Mandhana named ICC Women’s Player of the Month for June 2024

Smriti Mandhana, recognized as one of the world’s top-order batswomen, secured the ICC Women’s Player of the Month Award for June, surpassing Maia Bouchier of England and Vishmi Gunaratne of Sri Lanka for her outstanding performances. The 27-year-old reinforced her stature with exceptional displays during India’s comprehensive ODI series victory over South Africa in Bengaluru, followed by a stellar Test match in Chennai against the same opponent.

Mandhana’s dominance with the bat was evident as she struck centuries in the first two ODIs, scoring 113 and 136, and added a crucial 90 in the third match. Transitioning to the Test format, she played a pivotal role in India’s victory, partnering with Shafali Verma to set a formidable foundation with a 292-run opening stand. Mandhana’s commanding innings of 149 off just 161 balls contributed significantly to India’s declaration at 603/6 in the first innings, leading to a decisive 10-wicket win over South Africa.

Expressing her delight upon receiving the award, Mandhana emphasized her commitment to team success and expressed optimism about sustaining her form to help India win more matches.
