Shreyas Iyer will miss Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match against Tripura because of an injury. Since returning from Sri Lanka in August, the senior Indian batter has participated in six consecutive first-class matches across the Duleep Trophy, Irani Cup, and Ranji Trophy tournaments, representing both India A and Mumbai.
Just last week, Iyer delivered a match-winning performance with a brilliant 142 against Maharashtra at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai.
However, as per a report by Cricbuzz, the 29-year-old cricketer recently sustained a shoulder injury and will be required to rest for at least one week. Sources within the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) have confirmed that Iyer will not be traveling to Agartala for Mumbai’s next match.
So far in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, Iyer has accumulated 172 runs in three innings across two matches, maintaining an impressive average of 57.33. His campaign began with scores of 0 and 30 against Baroda, followed by a magnificent 142 against Maharashtra, marking his 14th first-class century.
Ajinkya Rahane will lead the Mumbai cricket team as they face Tripura in their Elite Group A clash at Maharaja Bir Bikram College Stadium in Agartala from October 26 to 29. Mumbai, the defending champions, have recorded one win and one loss so far, placing them fourth in the Elite Group A standings. A victory against Tripura would boost their position as they aim to continue their recent dominance in India’s first-class cricket competitions.
