Shreyas Iyer, India’s experienced middle-order batter, will return to Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad after recovering from a shoulder injury. The stylish Mumbaikar had previously requested a break, missing the last match against Tripura in Agartala. His return brings good news for Mumbai, as he will play in the upcoming match against Odisha, starting on November 6 at the MCA ground.

However, Mumbai will continue to miss the explosive opening batter Prithvi Shaw, who has not been recalled for the Odisha clash. Shaw’s absence is due to poor fitness levels, and he is currently undergoing a fitness training program organized by the Mumbai Cricket Association.
Injuries have plagued Shreyas Iyer’s career despite his undeniable talent and temperament. In 2021, he underwent shoulder surgery for a partially dislocated left shoulder, which sidelined him for the T20 World Cup and the latter half of the IPL. Additionally, a back injury forced him to miss several crucial matches for the national team, resulting in the loss of his central contract and exclusion from Test and T20I squads.
As for Mumbai’s performance in the 2024 Ranji Trophy, they have had a challenging season. Led by Ajinkya Rahane, the team currently sits third in the Group A points table, with one win in three matches. After a tough start with a loss to Baroda, they bounced back with a strong victory against Maharashtra and managed to secure a draw against Tripura. With Iyer back in the squad, Mumbai will be eager to improve their standing in the tournament.
