Bangladesh fast bowler Shoriful Islam has been ruled out of the second Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi due to a groin injury. The injury leaves him in a race against time to recover before Bangladesh’s upcoming Test series in India next month.

Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan explained that Shoriful complained of groin discomfort after the first Test against Pakistan, prompting further medical evaluation. “Shoriful underwent an MRI following the first Test, and the results show a Grade 1 left adductor strain,” Bayjedul stated. “Recovery usually takes around 10 days in such cases, and he has already started his rehabilitation.”
Shoriful played a significant role in Bangladesh’s ten-wicket victory in the first Test, taking three wickets and contributing a quickfire 22 runs off 14 balls, which included two sixes. His absence for the second Test has led to Taskin Ahmed’s inclusion in the starting XI. Taskin is making a return to Test cricket after more than a year.
Since his debut three years ago, Shoriful has played 11 Tests for Bangladesh but has also missed the same number due to various injuries. The Bangladesh team faces a packed schedule for the remainder of 2024. After the India tour, they will host South Africa for two Tests in October and then embark on a full tour of the West Indies in November and December. The first Test against India begins in Chennai on September 19, kicking off a series that includes two Tests and three T20Is, running until October 12.
