Yashasvi Jaiswal has earned high praise from his captain and opening partner Rohit Sharma, who finds the young player’s rapid rise unsurprising. Rohit believes Jaiswal “will do wonders for the team” across all formats.
Jaiswal made his international debut in a Test against the West Indies last year, scoring an impressive 171 in his first innings. The 22-year-old has accumulated 1,217 runs in 11 Tests, averaging 64.05. He has scored seven fifties and three centuries, converting two of those into double hundreds, with a highest score of 214 not out.
“The guy has real talent,” Rohit stated. “He has the ability to succeed in various conditions. It’s early to judge since he’s new to international cricket, but he possesses all the ingredients for success at this level.”
Rohit has closely observed Jaiswal’s development, having opened the innings with him in all 11 Tests. Since they paired in July 2023, the duo has scored 1,082 runs in 20 innings. Jaiswal currently ranks third in the Test batting rankings and is the second-highest run-scorer in the current World Test Championship cycle, trailing only Joe Root. In T20Is, he has scored 723 runs in 22 innings, with five fifties and one century, though he has yet to play an ODI.
Rohit emphasized Jaiswal’s eagerness to learn and adapt, believing these qualities will be crucial for the young player’s continued success.
