Former India head coach Rahul Dravid recently discussed the potential inclusion of cricket in the Olympics during a panel event in Paris. Speaking at the India House Paris, Dravid shared insights from “serious dressing room conversations” suggesting that players are eager to compete in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. He emphasized that the prospect of winning an Olympic gold medal and experiencing the Olympic Village will motivate athletes to prepare rigorously.
Dravid highlighted that with major events like the 2026 T20 World Cup and the 2027 ODI World Cup approaching, players are already looking ahead to the Olympics. “As the Games draw nearer, teams will seriously prepare and players will do everything they can to be part of it,” he said.
Dravid, who attended the panel discussion on ‘Cricket at the Olympics: Dawn of a New Era‘, expressed his excitement about the sport’s inclusion in the 2028 Games. He reminisced about watching Olympic legends and the dream of participating in such a grand event. While Dravid will not be competing, he humorously mentioned that he might seek a media job in Los Angeles.
ICC CEO Geoff Allardice, also present, praised the growing global recognition of cricket. He anticipated that cricket would become a major highlight of the LA Olympics, noting the energy and excitement surrounding the sport’s Olympic debut. The men’s and women’s cricket competitions will run concurrently, promising a vibrant addition to the 2028 Olympics.
