Mohammed Shami to Miss Australia Series Due to Injury

Mohammed Shami’s return to competitive cricket has faced a major setback. As reported by the Times of India, the Indian pacer developed a swollen knee during his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). This injury could keep him sidelined for another six to eight weeks, ruling him out of the crucial five-match Test series against Australia.

Shami planned to represent Bengal in the upcoming Ranji Trophy and aimed to make his international comeback in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. After undergoing surgery in February 2024 to repair his Achilles tendon, he had resumed bowling at full intensity at the NCA, appearing to have fully recovered. However, given Shami’s history of knee injuries, this latest issue has delayed his return to the national team once again.

The 34-year-old last played for India in the 2023 World Cup and was set to participate in the Test series against South Africa later that year. Unfortunately, injuries forced him out, and he has been undergoing rehabilitation ever since. Shami continues to be a key figure in India’s Test lineup, with his skill and experience expected to play a crucial role against Australia.

However, his future in white-ball cricket appears uncertain due to recurring injuries. Reports indicate that Shami may now focus primarily on red-ball cricket, possibly missing the 2025 Champions Trophy in February.
