Himachal Pradesh all-rounder Rishi Dhawan announced his retirement from white-ball cricket on January 5th, ending his career in limited-overs formats. Dhawan’s international journey began in 2016 under MS Dhoni, during which he played three ODIs and one T20I for India. However, it was in domestic cricket where he truly made his mark.
Dhawan’s domestic record is impressive, with 839 runs and 38 wickets in List-A cricket. In T20s, he accumulated 1,740 runs and took 118 wickets. His IPL career saw him contribute 210 runs and 25 wickets for Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Kolkata Knight Riders.
The all-rounder decided to retire after Himachal Pradesh was eliminated from the group stage of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Taking to social media, Dhawan shared an emotional note announcing his decision. He described stepping away from Indian cricket as a difficult choice, but one with no regrets. Dhawan reflected on how the sport had shaped his life, bringing him immense joy and unforgettable memories.
In his heartfelt message on Instagram, Dhawan wrote, “It’s with a heavy heart, even though I have no regrets, that I’d like to announce my retirement from Indian cricket (Limited over). This game has given me immeasurable joy and countless memories that will always stay very close to my heart.”
Dhawan’s final performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy were noteworthy. He played a significant role in the tournament, including an impressive unbeaten 82 off 72 balls against Sikkim. His last match saw him take two wickets and score an unbeaten 45 runs against Andhra, marking a fitting end to his limited-overs career.
