Gujarat Giants roped in uncapped Indian cricketer Simran Shaikh for a whopping ₹1.9 crore at the WPL 2025 auction on Sunday, December 15. Gujarat Giants Sign Uncapped Indian Simran Shaikh for ₹1.9 Crore at WPL 2025 Auction

Shaikh, a Mumbai-based batter, will now represent the Gujarat Giants in the upcoming WPL 2025 season. She had previously played for UP Warriorz in the inaugural edition but was released after a lackluster campaign. Despite playing all nine matches for the Warriorz in WPL 2023, her performance fell short of expectations. She managed just 29 runs from seven innings, with a poor average of 5.80. Shaikh faced 48 balls throughout the tournament and struck at a disappointing rate of 60.41. Her struggles contributed to UP Warriorz’s eventual exit in the Eliminator against Mumbai Indians Women.

However, Simran Shaikh’s inclusion in the Gujarat Giants lineup for WPL 2025 signals the franchise’s confidence in her potential to turn things around. The hefty ₹1.9 crore price tag placed Simran Shaikh ahead of some big names, including West Indies legend Deandra Dottin, who went for a lower sum.

Now set for a fresh start, Shaikh has the opportunity to justify her massive price tag and prove her worth in the upcoming season. Her inclusion in the Gujarat Giants squad will be under close watch as fans and analysts eagerly anticipate her performance. WPL 2025 could be a defining moment for Simran Shaikh to bounce back and live up to the expectations surrounding her.
