In the first innings, Kohli was dismissed cheaply by Josh Hazlewood, raising concerns about his form. However, with India in a tricky position during the second innings, he rose to the occasion. Kohli steadied the innings with a brief partnership alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal before India lost three quick wickets. Staying composed, he partnered with Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy, guiding India to a lead of over 500 runs and reaching his 30th Test century in the process.

The crowd, his wife Anushka Sharma, and coach Gautam Gambhir celebrated Kohli’s milestone moment. Gambhir hugged him in the dressing room. The hug was particularly emotional, as it marked a thaw in their previously tense relationship.

Reflecting on his achievement, Kohli credited Anushka for her unwavering support. Speaking to broadcasters, he said, “Anushka has been right by my side through thick and thin. She understands everything behind the scenes—what happens when you don’t perform well or make mistakes after getting a start.”

This century, Kohli’s first in 16 months since his knock against the West Indies in July 2023, was a testament to his resilience. Following his brilliance, Indian bowlers capitalized on the momentum, taking four quick Australian wickets, putting the hosts on the brink of a crushing defeat in Perth.
