Ben Stokes, England’s regular Test captain, is on track to return to international cricket after suffering a hamstring injury during ‘The Hundred 2024’. The all-rounder missed the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka but has shown promising signs of recovery ahead of England’s next Test series in Pakistan.

In a video shared by the ECB, Stokes said he is still early in his rehabilitation but is determined to return quickly. He explained that his decision to stay with the England team during the Sri Lanka series is to ensure he remains close to the physio and doctors, giving him the best chance to regain fitness.
“I’m all good, just slowly progressing. It’s still very early days in the rehab period… I want to get back as quick as I possibly can, so being around the medical team here with physio and doctors, I thought that was going to give myself the best chance of getting back sooner rather than later,” Stokes said.
Ollie Pope, leading England in Stokes’ absence, expressed confidence in Stokes’ recovery, noting that he aims to return as an all-rounder, not just as a batter. The second Test against Sri Lanka begins on August 29 at Lord’s. The visitors aim to level the series without Ben Stokes.
