Retired IPS officer Sharad Kumar, who previously served as the head of India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA), has taken on the role of the new chief of the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU). BCCI names Sharad Kumar as the new head of its Anti-Corruption Unit

The BCCI formalized Kumar’s appointment on October 1, following its Annual General Meeting on September 29. He succeeds KK Mishra, another former IPS officer, who did not complete his term as ACU chief for unspecified reasons.

Kumar, from the Haryana cadre, served as the Director General of the NIA from 2013 to 2017, overseeing key investigations like the Pathankot airbase attack. After his NIA tenure, he served as Vigilance Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and was also interim Central Vigilance Commissioner from 2018 to 2020.

His extensive leadership experience in tackling high-profile cases and enforcing anti-corruption measures will strengthen the BCCI’s efforts to ensure fairness in the sport. As the ACU chief, Kumar will play a crucial role in ensuring that Indian cricket remains free from corruption, reinforcing the board’s commitment to transparency and integrity. His expertise will significantly bolster the anti-corruption framework within Indian cricket.
