The BCCI has announced its support for the Indian contingent heading to the Paris Olympics 2024. A total of 117 Indian athletes, including seven reserves, will travel to Paris for the Games starting on July 26. Alongside the athletes, the team will include 67 coaches and 72 support staff members.

On Sunday, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah shared the news on X, expressing his pride and extending best wishes to the athletes. He also revealed that the BCCI will provide INR 8.5 crores to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for the campaign. Shah’s message read: “I am proud to announce that the @BCCI will be supporting our incredible athletes representing #India at the 2024 Paris Olympics. We are providing INR 8.5 Crores to the IOA for the campaign. To our entire contingent, we wish you the very best. Make India proud! Jai Hind.”

The Indian contingent will feature 29 athletes (11 women and 18 men) from athletics, 21 from shooting, 19 from hockey, 8 from table tennis, 7 from badminton, and 6 each from wrestling, archery, and boxing. Additionally, 4 athletes from golf, 3 from tennis, and 2 each from swimming and sailing, plus one each from equestrian, judo, rowing, and weightlifting, will also be part of the team.
Meanwhile, Paris is preparing for the Olympics with final touches being added to venues across the city. After recent rain, the weather has improved, and the water quality of the River Seine has notably improved. The Seine will host the opening ceremony, where 6,000-7,000 athletes will sail down the river on 85 barges and boats. This will be the first time a Summer Olympics opens outside the main athletics stadium. Up to 300,000 ticketed spectators will view the event from stands and riverbanks, with another 200,000 expected to watch from nearby apartments.
