BCB director Nazmul Abedeen Fahim wants Phil Simmons to continue as Bangladesh’s head coach until the 2027 ODI World Cup. He confirmed that the board would soon hold official discussions with Simmons, aiming for a long-term deal.

The contract extension was among several topics discussed during a board meeting in Dhaka on Monday. Simmons, appointed in October last year on an interim basis, has had mixed results. Under his guidance, Bangladesh won only one series—a 3-0 T20I victory against West Indies. They also made an early Champions Trophy exit after losses to India and New Zealand, with their last match against Pakistan being washed out.
Despite the results, both BCB president Faruque Ahmed and director Fahim support Simmons. “The contracts of our head coach and senior assistant coach were until mid-March,” Fahim said. “We are satisfied with them, so we will engage in renegotiations. If we can’t reach an agreement, we’ll explore other options. However, we are hopeful of extending their contracts until the 2027 World Cup.”
Fahim praised Simmons’ rapport with local coaches and players, believing he can make a lasting impact on the team. The BCB is also set to renew the contract of senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin, who was appointed on a short-term basis last November. The board is encouraged by the strong working relationship between Simmons and Salahuddin.
Additionally, the BCB will extend the contract of spin-bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed and has accepted Hannan Sarkar’s resignation as a selector. Fahim also revealed that the board is in discussions with multiple candidates to strengthen the team’s fielding department.
