BCB announces national contracts for 30 additional women cricketers in Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has introduced national contracts for an additional 30 women cricketers, including uncapped players or those who have not been part of the national team recently. This move expands the pool of centrally-contracted female cricketers in Bangladesh to 48, with the newly-contracted players receiving a monthly salary until June 2025. The contracts, which mirror the men’s first-class player agreements, aim to provide financial stability to more players and grow the talent pool.

Along with this, existing centrally-contracted players have also received a salary increase for the October 2024 to June 2025 period. Grades A and B players will now earn BDT 120,000 (approx. US$1,000) and BDT 100,000 (approx. US$850) per month, an increase of BDT 20,000 from the previous year. Players in Grades C and D will earn BDT 70,000 (approx. US$600) and BDT 60,000 (approx. US$500) per month, an increase of BDT 10,000 each.

Additionally, the BCB has introduced performance-based bonuses for women’s cricket. Players will receive bonuses ranging from BDT 50,000 to BDT 100,000 for winning ODI or T20I series against top-ranked sides. Specifically, the bonus amounts will vary depending on the opponent’s ranking, with higher rewards for victories over top-ranked teams.

Notably, Sharmin Akhter, Murshida Khatun, and Marufa Akter have been promoted to Grade B. The full list of contracted players includes established stars like Nigar Sultana, Ritu Moni, and Nahida Akter, along with newcomers looking to make their mark in the international arena. This step reflects the BCB’s continued commitment to strengthening women’s cricket in the country.
