In a recent turn of events in Bangladesh cricket, a case has been filed against veteran cricketer Mashrafe Mortaza. He has been accused of allegedly assaulting protestors during an anti-discrimination movement. The complaint, filed by Sheikh Mostafa Al-Muzahidur Rahman at the Narail Sadar Police Station, also names Mortaza’s father among the accused.

Details of the Incident
According to the police, the incident took place on August 4, when Mortaza and his father reportedly held a rally at the Narail intersection. Armed men allegedly accompanied them. When students demanding the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reached the Russel Bridge area, a clash broke out between them and Mortaza’s group. This led to serious accusations against the former Bangladesh captain.
Mortaza’s House Set on Fire
Adding to the chaos, Mortaza’s house was set on fire by violent protestors. This occurred after the ouster of ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Initially, reports suggested that Litton Das’ house was targeted. However, it was later confirmed that Mortaza’s residence was the one attacked.
Shakib Al Hasan Also Involved in Political Tensions
This isn’t the first time a high-profile Bangladeshi cricketer has been caught in political turmoil. Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan was named in a murder case related to the protests. The father of Mohammed Rubel, who was killed in the clashes, filed the case against Shakib in Dhaka. Despite the controversy, Shakib participated in Bangladesh’s series against Pakistan and has since signed a deal with Surrey, skipping practice ahead of the India series starting on September 19.
