In a thrilling Group D clash at the T20 World Cup 2024, Bangladesh triumphed over the Netherlands at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent, on June 13.

Opting to bat first, Bangladesh posted a competitive total of 158 runs in their allotted 20 overs, securing a crucial 25-run victory.
Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan led the charge with an unbeaten 64 off 46 balls, supported by Mahmudullah’s valuable 25 runs.
On the bowling front, Rishad Hossain took three crucial wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman also made significant contributions. Mustafizur was particularly economical, conceding just 12 runs in his four overs and picking up one wicket.
Bangladesh’s skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed his delight with the team’s performance, stating, “The boys showed a lot of character. It was an important game for us. We remained calm on the field and that impressed me.” He also praised Shakib Al Hasan, saying, “Shakib’s calmness at the crease was crucial. He struggled in the last few games but showed what he is capable of, and we are really happy for him.”
Discussing the playing conditions, Shanto remarked, “We didn’t know how the conditions would behave. It was hard for the batters, but they did a great job adapting and getting us to that total. The outfield is nice, and the pitch is good. A few balls stay low, but that happens on any wicket. It’s a really good wicket to bat on.”
With this win, Bangladesh secured their second victory in three games, placing them second in the points table and edging closer to the Super 8 stage.
Looking ahead, Bangladesh will face Nepal on June 17 at the same venue, aiming to secure their spot in the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2024.
