Bad light cut short the third day’s play of the Dhaka Test, with Bangladesh reaching 283 for 7, leading Bangladesh by 81 runs. The officials called off play at 4 pm local time, an hour before the scheduled close, following a rain interruption earlier in the day. Half-centuries from Mehidy Hasan Miraz (87*) and debutant Jaker Ali (58) helped Bangladesh fight back from 112 for 6.

The day started poorly for Bangladesh as Kagiso Rabada quickly removed Mahmudul Hasan Joy (40) and Mushfiqur Rahim in the first 30 minutes. Litton Das soon followed, edging behind off Keshav Maharaj, leaving Bangladesh in a precarious position.
Mehidy and Jaker then steadied the innings with a crucial 138-run partnership for the seventh wicket, Bangladesh’s third century stand for the seventh wicket in their last five Tests. Mehidy showed excellent composure, hitting nine fours and a six in his 171-ball knock, while Jaker, playing in his debut Test, contributed with seven boundaries.
Rain interrupted play for 78 minutes in the second session. Before the break, Jaker reached his maiden Test fifty but was later trapped lbw by Maharaj. Despite the tough conditions, Bangladesh surpassed South Africa’s 202-run first-innings lead and will aim to build on their advantage on the fourth day.
Rabada was the pick of South Africa’s bowlers, claiming 4 for 35, while Maharaj provided support with two wickets. As weather concerns loom, Bangladesh will look to extend their lead, with Mehidy still unbeaten and three wickets in hand.
