Azam Khan won’t play the first PAK vs NZ T20I due to injury, as per reports

A setback has struck the Pakistan cricket team just hours before their crucial T20I series opener against New Zealand. Azam Khan, the explosive young wicketkeeper-batsman, is likely to miss the first match due to a right knee injury.

News of Azam’s injury emerged from reports in ‘The Nation,’ stating that he experienced discomfort in his knee and right calf muscle during a recent net session. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s medical staff is keeping a close eye on his condition, with a final decision regarding his participation in the series opener hinging on radiology reports.

Azam Khan, known for his aggressive batting approach, has been working diligently on his fitness. He actively participated in the strenuous workout sessions conducted at the 11-day Pakistan Army fitness camp in Kakul. However, despite his dedication, Azam has yet to establish himself on the international stage, having managed only 29 runs in his seven T20I appearances so far, averaging a modest 4.83.

The inclusion of experienced all-rounders Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim in the Pakistan squad already meant Azam faced stiff competition for a spot in the playing XI. In his absence, the wicketkeeping duties are expected to fall upon the reliable Mohammad Rizwan.
