Adam Zampa’s impressive leg-spin performance dismantled New Zealand’s middle order, claiming 4-34 as the hosts were bundled out for 102 runs in 17 overs at Eden Park.

From the outset, New Zealand struggled with early wickets, hampering their ability to mount a substantial challenge against the visitors. The visitors posted a total of 174 runs before dismissing New Zealand in the final over.

Despite Glenn Phillips’ resilient 42, New Zealand’s hopes dwindled after his departure in the 14th over, caught at long-on off Zampa. Additionally, Devon Conway’s thumb injury, sustained while wicketkeeping, further weakened New Zealand’s batting lineup.

Conway’s availability for Sunday’s third match in Auckland and the upcoming two-Test series in Wellington remains uncertain due to his injury.

New Zealand’s batting woes continued as Captain Mitchell Santner’s promotion up the order backfired, contributing only five runs. Loose shots led to the downfall of eight New Zealand batsmen, none of whom managed to surpass 10 runs.

Earlier, despite a strong start with opener Travis Head’s brisk 45 off 22 balls, Australia stumbled in the middle overs, losing five quick wickets after reaching 84-1 in the seventh over. Lockie Ferguson’s brilliant bowling performance yielded 4-12 from 3.5 overs, disrupting Australia’s momentum.

Captain Mitchell Marsh contributed 26 runs, while Pat Cummins provided a late flourish with 28 runs. Adam Milne, Ben Sears, and Santner claimed two wickets each for the hosts.
