India secured a commanding 280-run victory over Bangladesh, taking a 1-0 lead in the series after a dominant performance in Chennai. The match saw R. Ashwin shine with a remarkable double of a century and a six-wicket haul, marking his fourth instance of achieving this feat in a single Test. He completed his second consecutive double at Chepauk, contributing significantly to India’s win on the fourth morning.

India posted 376 in their first innings, thanks to notable contributions from Ashwin (113) and Ravindra Jadeja (86). Bangladesh struggled in response, managing only 149 runs, with Shakib Al Hasan top-scoring at 32. Jasprit Bumrah was particularly effective, claiming four wickets for 50 runs.
In their second innings, Bangladesh fared slightly better, scoring 234. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib initially held firm, surviving the first hour without losing a wicket. However, the introduction of Ashwin and Jadeja broke their resistance. Ashwin’s fifth-wicket haul brought him level with the legendary Shane Warne on the all-time list, now trailing only Muthiah Muralidaran.
Ashwin struck first, enticing Shakib into an ill-fated shot that resulted in a catch to Yashasvi Jaiswal at short leg. Jadeja soon added to the pressure, dismissing Litton Das with a catch at first slip. Ashwin’s final wicket came when Mehidy Hasan attempted to clear long-on but instead offered a simple catch to Jadeja.
Shanto’s resistance ended after a thick edge off Jadeja’s bowling, and despite a near miss for Ashwin’s seventh wicket, Jadeja wrapped up the innings with his third wicket, sealing a comprehensive victory for India.
