Aqib Javed, known for his successful international career and extensive coaching experience, will also retain his role as a senior member of the National Selection Committee during his interim tenure. After the Champions Trophy, Aqib will likely assume additional responsibilities within the team’s management structure.

His appointment follows the sudden resignation of Gary Kirsten, leaving the PCB in search of a permanent head coach. The board plans to complete the recruitment process for a long-term coach by the end of the Champions Trophy. In the interim, Aqib provides stability with his deep understanding of the game and expertise in nurturing young talent.

Meanwhile, Jason Gillespie will continue as Pakistan’s red-ball head coach, resuming duties for the upcoming two-Test series in South Africa. Aqib’s immediate task will be preparing the team for a three-match ODI and T20I series against Zimbabwe.

With the Champions Trophy approaching, Pakistan aims to regain its competitive edge in white-ball cricket. Aqib’s appointment is viewed as a strategic move to bring a fresh perspective and maximize the team’s potential. The PCB is confident in Aqib’s ability to guide Pakistan through this crucial phase and lay the groundwork for long-term success in global cricket.
