Dhruv Jurel’s unexpected call-up to the national team raised eyebrows due to his limited experience in red-ball cricket. However, both the selection committee and team management displayed confidence in the 23-year-old, a move that paid off handsomely as Jurel played a pivotal role in India’s victory in the Ranchi Test against a formidable England side.

In the match, the Agra-born cricketer showcased his batting prowess by scoring 90 runs in the first innings and an unbeaten 39 in the second. Former cricketer Anil Kumble praised Jurel’s technique and temperament, drawing comparisons to the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman and former India captain MS Dhoni.
“Dhruv Jurel certainly has all the credentials to reach the heights of MS Dhoni’s career. He has shown not only the temperament but also the technique, both in defense and attack,” Kumble remarked.
Kumble also praised Jurel’s excellent skills behind the stumps, especially when facing fast bowlers, and expressed hope that he will keep getting better in upcoming matches. He highlighted how important it is to have Jurel in the team, believing that he has a bright future ahead of him.
Following his outstanding performance in Ranchi, Jurel has cemented his place in the Test squad, replacing KS Bharat, who struggled with the bat. Additionally, Jurel is set to earn his first BCCI contract when he features in the fifth Test against England in Dharamshala, marking a significant milestone in his career.
