Afghanistan's Batsman Noor Ali Zadran Announces Retirement

Afghanistan’s seasoned batsman Noor Ali Zadran has decided to bid farewell to international cricket, drawing the curtains on a career spanning two Tests, 51 ODIs, and 23 T20Is since his debut in 2009. His final international outing came in the recent one-off Test against Ireland, culminating in a defeat for Afghanistan.

Afghanistan's Batsman Noor Ali Zadran Announces Retirement

Noor Ali amassed 1216 runs in ODIs at an average of 24.81, alongside 597 runs in T20Is at 27.13. Notably, he played Tests against Sri Lanka and Ireland, scoring 117 runs across four innings in a short period.

His resurgence into the Afghanistan squad occurred during the T20Is at the Asian Games in October 2023, marking his return after a hiatus since the 2019 ODI World Cup. Noor Ali’s notable performances included crucial knocks against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, guiding Afghanistan to the final against India, albeit ending in a no-result due to rain.

Noor Ali’s illustrious career encompasses memorable milestones, including his impactful half-century against India in Afghanistan’s maiden World Cup appearance in 2010. He was also pivotal in Afghanistan’s triumph over Zimbabwe during the T20 World Cup in 2016, contributing significantly to the team’s journey in global cricket events.
