India powered to a commanding 48-run win over New Zealand in the opening T20I, riding on a blistering start from Abhishek Sharma and a late surge from Rinku Singh. Sent in to bat, India raced to 238 for 7, with Abhishek smashing 84 from just 35 balls and Rinku finishing unbeaten on 44 off 20 to give the hosts a massive total despite a few missed chances in the field later on.

India began at full throttle, with boundaries flowing from the outset. Early wickets fell, but Abhishek kept the momentum going, attacking both pace and spin with ease. He struck five fours and eight sixes, reaching his half-century in only 22 balls — the fastest by an Indian against New Zealand in T20Is. Suryakumar Yadav provided brisk support before departing for 32, while Hardik Pandya added a handy 25.
At the death, Rinku ensured there was no slowdown. With limited deliveries to face, he dominated the final over, plundering four boundaries and two sixes to push India well beyond the 230 mark.

Chasing 239, New Zealand stumbled early, losing two wickets for just one run. Glenn Phillips mounted a lone resistance with a superb 78 off 40 balls, clearing the ropes repeatedly to keep the contest alive for a while. However, once he fell, the outcome was effectively sealed. Mark Chapman and Daryl Mitchell added quick runs but could only trim the margin of defeat.
India’s bowlers shared the spoils, with Arshdeep Singh striking early and Varun Chakravarthy and Shivam Dube chipping in during the middle overs. The only concern for India was an injury scare to Axar Patel, who left the field after hurting his finger while bowling.
Overall, it was a dominant all-round display that gave India a perfect start to the five-match series.
