Both the men’s and women’s USA basketball teams remain undefeated in their preparation for the Paris Olympics, featuring star players like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and A’ja Wilson. Despite their on-paper dominance, logistical challenges are presenting unexpected hurdles.

Opting to stay in a luxurious Paris hotel rather than the Olympic Village, a tradition since 1992, Team USA faces travel challenges with basketball events held in Lille. The team must take a two-hour train journey or a four-hour road trip before each game. To ensure punctuality, they plan to travel to Lille a day prior and return to Paris immediately after each game.
However, recent events in France have disrupted these plans. On the morning of the opening ceremony, arson attacks on high-speed rail lines affected travel for over 800,000 commuters. Cyber attacks by hackers further stranded thousands of passengers, blocking major pathways to Paris. While high-speed rail service is resuming, delays of up to two hours are expected, complicating Team USA’s travel plans.
With these security concerns, the basketball federation may need to consider alternative transportation, such as road travel. No official statement has been released by Team USA Basketball regarding changes to their transportation plans.
Despite the disruptions, the Paris Olympics opening ceremony proceeded as scheduled. The situation remains fluid, and Team USA may need to adapt quickly to ensure they arrive in Lille on time for their games.
